Asimina triloba Pennsylvania Golden pawpaw is one of the earliest ripening varieties, making it an excellent choice for gardeners in cooler regions. Each tree produces good crops of large, sweet, and flavorful fruit, ready to enjoy weeks before most other pawpaws. The 3–6 inch fruit are packed with protein, vitamins, and minerals, offering a creamy, tropical flavor reminiscent of bananas. They are delicious eaten fresh and versatile enough for recipes ranging from sorbets to smoothies, baked goods, and even craft beer. Pawpaws are among the most rewarding fruit trees to grow, naturally disease- and pest-resistant, and suitable for mixed orchards or backyard gardens. Pennsylvania Golden, like all pawpaws, requires a second variety for cross-pollination and abundant fruiting. Hardy in zones 5–8.
